Nelson Spiritualist Church

I have been asked to write about our groups in Nelson so here goes. The first spiritualist group of which we have on record in Nelson started in 1975. Over the years many interested people have come and gone, but Pearl and Hugh Watson had a vision for the future. Pearl kept a close eye on the finance, and lots of hard work took place to raise funds to establish a meeting place in Nelson. Produce and craft schools were run, readings were also undertaken, along with regular healing and development groups, and Sunday evening services.

After much searching a building was found at a price we could afford. To say it was in a disgusting state would be an understatement. A bikey group had moved in, and when the police went to move them out some were arrested!

Well, we moved in – an experience some of us will never forget!

Walls were pulled out, the floor was pulled up and replaced, as was the roof. The inside was papered, the outside was painted, and after a year of dedicated and voluntary work the church was opened on 27 November 1988. After six years of unstinting effort, we had a freehold building. We continually give thanks to those in spirit who have given such wonderful guidance protection and support.
