Personal Responsibility

Personal Responsibility is one of the Seven Principles of Spiritualism. This principle states that we alone are responsible for our every thought, work action and reaction. It is a cornerstone of our understanding as it neatly places the responsibility on each of us individually, a concept that is being increasingly ‘lost’ in our society – where it seems almost automatic for so many to try to find somebody or something to blame for nearly everything, especially when we wish to avoid admitting that we were/are wrong.

It challenges us to produce the bet effort we can and is, at the same time, both a powerful freedom and a heavy burden. For no matter what the circumstances that are presented to us, there are always choices for us to make. And if the choices we make end up not siting well with us, then we must take total responsibility for them. And it is form the choices that we make that gradually learning and understanding c can come and as a consequence we can move on and continue to grow and mature spiritually. Personal responsibility is therefore both a tool and a ladder.

Spiritualism teaches us that no-one can save us from wrongdoing but ourselves. Man, through his conscience, knows the difference between right and wrong. God gave all soul’s free expression, the free will to make our own choices. Therefore, the choice we make at all times are up to us.
